At times it seems like we have a cancer epidemic in this country.
Yesterday, we heard that our wonderful hair cutter has breast cancer which has spread to her lymph nodes. She is the picture of health: she exercises regularly, keeps her weight down and is very mindful of what and how she eats. There’s no apparent reason that she would be a likely candidate for cancer.
In her particular case, not only will she have to go through the challenges of the road back to health in her physical and psychological being, the toll on her financial health will be significant. She works for herself in her own hair salon. So, when she doesn’t work, she doesn’t make any money.
She has always been the first one with an encouraging word for others when they have faced similar challenges. For many of our friends, when their hair began to fall out from treatment, Mary always gave them a very short cut or shaved their heads, free-of-charge. She made them feel and look good.
Isn’t it time for some of us to give back? Can all of you do some brainstorming on behalf of Mary’s plight ? Any creative fund raisers or knowledge of grants for such situations out there willing to help?

Try this – I also sent a link to your personal email. There are many listings on this site of potential financial help.
Really great idea, Beth. You are one of the good ones! (yes, I did put that in writing…)
